Two of my outdoor patio chairs were in desperate need of new cushions. I bought these chairs a few years ago and the original brick-red colored cushions had become really faded and discolored after a few summers in the sun.
.
Here are the chairs before:
.
.
There was no way I was going to put these chairs out again this year looking like this!
.
.
Of course, this project was on my to-do list all winter but I somehow managed to put it off until last month.
.
I started by using trace paper and tracing the existing cushions to make a pattern.
.
.
I pinned the patterns to the fabric and cut out the pieces.
.
.
Once I had the pattern pieces cut out, I wrapped them around the existing cushions and pinned the fabric around them so that I would know where to sew.
.
.
Sewing was a bit tricky, but I'm pretty happy with how they turned out - and they definitely look much better than the old cushions!
.
.
.
.
.
.
Now that these are finished, I am officially ready for Summer. I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! My Dad helped me put up a new flag up just in time to celebrate the holiday.
.
*** The fabric I used for the cushions is by Waverly from their Sun N Shade Collection. The pattern name is: SNS Lovely Lattice, color is: Citrine.

They turned out A-MAZ-ING! So much better than they ones I threw together. :)
Oooh... typo... how about "the ones I threw together" instead?!
Your cushions are FAB! Great job!
I had to redo my patio cushions also. BUT...I took forever to do the large bench cushion that squirrels ate a big chunk out of it! Went to the upholsterer and he wanted $155 for a new cushion. That's just the foam! waaaah!!!
Those look great. Much better than the faded red ones.
It looks fab great job:)
I LOVE the fabric! They look so great. What a huge difference!
Your new cushions are divine. And I noticed that you matched the pattern on your seams. You rock.
As usual you have inspired me, after seeing your cushions I am really excited about the outdoor pillows I will be working on this week.
Enjoy your short work week.
Those patio cushions are great. The fabric is fantastic, you are one clever, creative lady!
I like the idea of being creative but just cannot put it into practice, I hate needlework!
Great job with those chairs.
You are so ready for summer now! Those cushions are fabulous...you did a wonderful job. Love the geranium.
im in love...
Ok, I'm motivated. I've had 6 yeards of outdoor fabric for about 4 years now just waiting to be turned into cushions. Yes, I said 4 years - Yikes! Maybe by end of June I'll have all 4 done. Yours are beautiful!
Gorgeous! May I ask what fabric you used? It looks similar to a fabric I'm considering for some drapes.

Love them! They look brand new!
awesome!!!!!!
I so wish I had your sewing skills! I've been wanting a sewing machine for a while now, but after seeing all of your great projects I think I need to get one! Thanks for sharing!
They look amazing. I am finding I need to redo ours but that requires me to recover 6 cushions, not sure I feel like it!
What a pretty update to those old cushions. They look great and totally garden themed. Great job!
Enjoy the lovely days, Sherry
New follower here!!! Can't wait to be inspired with all of your genius DIY projects. :)
You have a wonderful talent there -- first for choosing such a perfect fabric and then for sewing them so beautifully. They look like they would have cost a million bucks. Great job!
Wow. I can barely sew a button! You did an awesome job.

These look so good! Love that fabric, I've been eying it myself. Did you put in a zipper in the back? I couldn't tell from the pics.

Crap. Now that I see this uber-inspiring project, I don't have any excuse. I need to push up my sleeves and get to work on my patio cushions too. Buah!
You did it by yourself? Wow! That is amazing. It looks like you bought it or someone made it for you. And the color's a whole lot better than before. A patio should not look dull and boring. You can choose bold or loud colors, as long as they do not hurt your eyes.
Thanks for the tutorial. . it's the sides that stump me so this will help. This is one of my favorite fabrics. Just used it in a couple of spots.
